An explosion occurred at the Valero plant located in Port Arthur. Local authorities have recommended that residents of the western part of the community stay indoors, tightly close windows and doors, and follow the instructions of emergency services.
In connection with the incident, the authorities of Port Arthur are warning of possible road restrictions in the area of Highway 82 and Highway 87, as well as the closure of exits from other highways. Sheriff Zena Stevens reported that the cause of the explosion was likely an industrial heater. Currently, there are no reports of injuries.
Specialists from the Texas Department of Emergency Management and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are working at the scene. According to the commission, they are monitoring air quality in the explosion area.
