Kim Jong Un has held the position of leader of the DPRK since 2011, and since 2016 he has also headed the State Council. Amendments made to the Constitution in 2019 solidified his status as the head of state and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA), whereas previously this position was formally held by the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.
