As a result of heavy rains in southern Pakistan, 17 people died and 30 were injured

Heavy rains that hit Karachi, Pakistan's largest port city, led to tragic consequences on March 18. According to information published by Xinhua, the death toll has reached 17, and 30 people were injured as a result of various incidents caused by adverse weather conditions.

According to local authorities and rescuers from service 1122, the injured were reported in several areas of the city, where heavy precipitation revealed weaknesses in the infrastructure. In particular, in the Baldia Town area, the collapse of a wall claimed the lives of 11 people, while 6 more fatalities were recorded in other parts of Karachi.

The city's mayor, Murtaza Wahab, noted that heavy rains and gusts of wind continue in Karachi, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel. He added that response teams have been organized in light of the situation, as rainwater has flooded many streets, complicating movement and daily activities for residents.

In turn, the Sindh Minister of Local Government, Nasir Hussain Shah, announced the introduction of a state of heightened readiness across the province, including Karachi.
