A fire was reported at 1:17 PM, after which the National Fire Agency of Korea decided to mobilize resources for firefighting across the country. This decision is made in cases where local services are unable to cope with the scale of the incident.
At the time the fire broke out, there were 170 employees at the factory, of which 14 people are still unaccounted for.
According to official sources, among the injured, there are 24 people with serious injuries, many of whom sustained them due to poisoning from toxic gases or falls from heights.
Extinguishing the fire required the involvement of more than 200 firefighters and 90 units of equipment, and helicopters from the forestry service are also participating in the operation.
Of the two buildings at the factory, one has completely burned down, while the other continues to burn. Firefighters cannot enter due to the risk of structural collapse.
Additional difficulties in combating the fire are posed by 200 kilograms of sodium located in the building, as they can explode if mishandled.
President Lee Jae-myung has instructed the need to mobilize all available resources to rescue the victims and contain the fire.
