Qatar Energy confirmed that in the morning hours of March 19, several facilities within the complex were subjected to missile fire, resulting in a significant fire and causing serious damage. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene; however, no casualties were reported.
The Qatari Ministry of Interior later announced via X network that all fires in Ras Laffan had been contained, and there were no reports of injuries.
The Ministry of Interior added that cooling and safety operations at the site are ongoing, and a specialized team is working with hazardous materials.
On the eve, Iranian authorities announced an attack on the South Pars gas field. Following this, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened strikes on oil and gas facilities in other countries in the region.
As a result, Ras Laffan in Qatar, which is the largest liquefied gas production cluster in the world, was attacked, and "significant damage" was inflicted on the Pearl GTL facility.
In response, Qatar declared the military attaché and security attaché at the Iranian embassy as persona non grata and demanded they leave the country immediately. President Trump promised that if Iran does not take reckless actions and does not attack Qatar, there will be no further Israeli attacks on South Pars. Otherwise, the U.S. is prepared to strike this field with unprecedented force.
