An unexpected factor in the deterioration of oral health has been revealed

A study conducted in China has revealed an interesting correlation between hypertension control in elderly individuals and the condition of their teeth and gums. This was reported by the agency Lenta.ru.

It turned out that those who pay less attention to their blood pressure often experience a deterioration in oral functions, including chewing and speech. The data from the study were published in the journal Frontiers in Dental Medicine.

The study involved 740 elderly individuals diagnosed with hypertension from medical institutions in Jiangsu province. Participants were surveyed about their disease management methods, and their levels of anxiety, nutritional status, and oral function issues were assessed.

The analysis results showed that patients who poorly control their blood pressure—such as those who take medication irregularly or do not monitor their condition—exhibit higher levels of anxiety and difficulties with nutrition. These aspects, in turn, contribute to the deterioration of chewing and speech functions.

Scientists emphasize that to ensure oral health in elderly individuals with hypertension, it is necessary to consider not only the treatment of blood pressure but also assistance in reducing anxiety and maintaining adequate nutrition. Such a multifaceted approach can significantly improve the quality of life and oral health in older age.
