The incident occurred on March 13 at approximately 08:00 local time in the Kalalangabo area of the Kigoma-Ujiji district.
According to information provided by officials, the deceased were part of a group of 18 medical workers who were heading to the village of Kagunga to vaccinate local residents on a boat owned by the district.
Michael Maganga, the commander of the fire service and rescue operations in Kigoma, confirmed the incident and reported that nine people were rescued and are currently receiving treatment at the Kigoma district hospital. He stated that search and rescue operations are ongoing.
