Amy Pope emphasized that civilians and the places where they seek protection should not become targets for attacks. She noted that many of the affected individuals were forced to leave their homes with only one change of clothes and are now living in tents that cannot protect them from bombings.
According to reports, more than 800,000 people have become displaced as a result of large-scale evacuations in Lebanon. Of these, about 125,000 are in state shelters, while the rest are staying with relatives or are homeless on the streets. The country's infrastructure and social services, already weakened by previous conflicts and the economic crisis, are facing serious challenges.
The IOM calls on all conflicting parties to adhere to international humanitarian law and to ensure humanitarian organizations have free access to those in need of assistance.
