In Kazakhstan, the decision to deport a 16-year-old Russian who disagrees with the war in Ukraine has been canceled

The court hearing was attended by Timur's grandmother, who, in response to the judge's questions, expressed concerns for her grandson's life in the event of his return to Russia.

Timur, originally from the Komi Republic, crossed the border into Kazakhstan on September 12 of last year, having made the journey by hitchhiking and walking. He stated that after crossing the border, he reached the border village of Astafyevo, covering about 17 kilometers overnight, and asked for help from the border guards.

The teenager was taken to the "Makhambet" border post and then transferred to Uralsk, where he was placed in a center for children in need of social assistance. Subsequently, he faced charges of illegal border crossing.

In December, the court ruled to deport Timur from Kazakhstan, banning him from entering the country for five years and imposing a six-month restriction of freedom as punishment. However, Turkov and his lawyer filed an appeal, and the prosecutor's office also supported the initiative to cancel the deportation.

Moreover, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Marianna Katzarova appealed to Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, requesting not to deport the minor Russian citizen who left his country in protest against the war in Ukraine and the militarization of society.
