Hungary returned armored vehicles to Ukraine but retained $40 million, €35 million, and gold

Hungarian investigators from the National Tax and Customs Administration have notified the lawyers of the Ukrainian side about this decision.

The armored vehicles were seized on March 5, containing 40 million dollars, 35 million euros, and nine kilograms of gold. Hungarian authorities initiated a criminal case on suspicion of money laundering, claiming that the transportation was carried out under the management of a former SBU general and other individuals with military backgrounds. On March 6, seven cash transporters who were detained returned to their homeland in Ukraine.

Oschadbank claims the retention of funds is illegal, emphasizing that the transportation was conducted based on an agreement with the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga characterized the actions of the Hungarian authorities as "an unprecedented act of state banditry and racketeering," and Kyiv demands the return of its assets.
