There is no threat of 'acid clouds' from Iran for Central Asian countries, - 'Uzgidromet'

Black clouds over Tehran after attacks on oil facilities.
The agency's statement emphasizes that these claims have no scientific basis.

Rumors about "acid clouds" began to spread after Israel's attack on the Shahran oil storage facility on March 7. As a result of the fires, black smoke formed over Tehran, obscuring the sky, and black rain began to fall in the city due to the combustion products of oil.

As explained by Uzgidromet, "acid precipitation" occurs due to the accumulation of sulfur oxides (SO₂) and nitrogen oxides (NO₂) in the atmosphere, which undergo chemical reactions with water vapor in the clouds. Such processes are usually observed in industrial areas and regions adjacent to emission sources.

The agency also noted that when air masses are transported over significant distances, the concentration of pollutants significantly decreases due to atmospheric turbulence, vertical mixing, and sedimentation processes. Therefore, the occurrence of dangerous concentrations of acid precipitation at distances of thousands of kilometers from the source is virtually excluded.

Uzgidromet added that the formation of precipitation is related to local cloud-forming processes. The falling rain is formed from water vapor and aerosols present in the atmosphere over a specific territory.

The agency also confirmed that according to meteorological observations and air quality monitoring data, there is no threat of "acid clouds" being transported to Uzbekistan and neighboring countries.
