In accordance with the new law adopted in Russia, foreigners and stateless persons who have served or continue to serve in the ranks of the Russian army or other military formations cannot be extradited for criminal prosecution.

President Vladimir Putin approved this law, which protects the rights of the specified categories of individuals by prohibiting their extradition for criminal prosecution or the enforcement of sentences.

According to the text of the document, the protection applies to those who participated in combat operations during their service.

The bill was approved by the State Duma on February 26 and received approval from the Federation Council on March 4.

Foreign citizens were given the opportunity to sign contracts for service in the Russian army in November 2022, while stateless persons were allowed to do so in July of last year.
