This year, the festival "Eagle Festival-2026" once again gathered numerous participants and spectators.
The main goal of this event is not only to promote the culture of nomads but also to pass on unique traditions and knowledge to the younger generation.
More than 30 hunters with eagles from regions such as Bayan-Ölgii, Töv, and Selenge participated in this festival, along with 16 athletes from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Spain, Hungary, and Russia.
The festival includes various competitions and contests. Participants, dressed in national costumes, perform with trained eagles and ride specially trained horses for hunting. Contestants are evaluated based on criteria related to traditional attire and equipment for the eagles.
As part of the festival, there were performances by Kazakh artists, and vendors selling traditional clothing and national dishes. Participants could visit a Kazakh yurt and learn about its unique traditions and way of life.
The organization of the "Eagle 2026" festival was carried out by the capital's tourism department with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth Affairs, as well as the Culture Department of Bayan-Ölgii Province and the "Chingis Khuuree" tourist complex.
Mongolian nomads have preserved traditional methods of training and hunting with birds of prey, such as golden eagles, for 6000 years. In 2010, Mongolia officially included this heritage in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
