Fragments of a meteorite fell on residential houses in Germany
On the evening of March 8, residents of western regions of Germany witnessed a bright fireball, after which reports of building damage in Rhineland-Palatinate were received by the police.
According to police, reports of damage came from the Hunsrück and Eifel regions, as well as from the city of Koblenz.
In the Güls district of Koblenz, a meteorite fragment pierced the roof of a house around 7:00 PM local time, leaving a hole the size of a soccer ball. Fortunately, none of the residents were harmed.
Civil protection services noted that after the fireball appeared, emergency services received numerous calls. Witnesses mentioned a bright flash and a loud sound.
The police assure that there is no danger to residents and suggest that it was a meteorite that disintegrated upon entering the atmosphere.
