At night in Tehran, airstrikes by the US and Israel targeted oil storage facilities, resulting in fuel leaking into sewage and drainage systems.

The flames quickly spread to neighboring areas, but the fire was soon brought under control.

Shortly after this, acid rains began in the city. According to the Iranian Red Crescent, the explosions at the oil storage facilities released a significant amount of toxic substances — hydrocarbons, as well as sulfur and nitrogen oxides.

When interacting with rain, these toxic elements form acid precipitation, which can pose health risks, causing chemical burns to the skin and lung damage.

According to The Times of Israel, as a result of the overnight attacks by the US and Israel on five oil facilities in Tehran and nearby areas, four people were killed, and columns of fire and smoke rose over the city.
