Currently, there are 2,589 women in correctional institutions in Uzbekistan, of which 1,239 have only secondary education and do not have a profession. Among them, 443 women have expressed a desire to continue their education in universities. To assist in their social rehabilitation, the program "Yangi hayot" ("New Life") will be implemented.
Mirziyoyev emphasized that women who have committed crimes for various reasons are also citizens of the country and deserve a chance for integration into society. "We must seriously consider their social rehabilitation and help them become full-fledged members of society," he added.
Together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Agency for Vocational Education, and the Ministry of Labor, courses lasting from 3 to 6 months will be organized, with the issuance of relevant certificates.
In addition, convicted women will have the opportunity to take entrance exams, enroll in higher educational institutions, and study remotely. For contract-based education, an interest-free loan will be offered, which can be repaid after the completion of their sentence and employment, the president reported.
