In Uzbekistan, the quota for grants to universities for girls from low-income families will be doubled

At an event dedicated to International Women's Day, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced a significant increase in the quota for state grants for girls from disadvantaged families. The number of grants will rise to 4,000.
Additionally, he emphasized that tuition for female students enrolled in joint education programs with universities ranked in the top 300 globally will be funded by the state.

To support women's startups, annual competitions will be held covering at least 10 different areas. Winners will be able to receive grants of up to 500 million sums from the Innovation Fund.

The president also noted that the education of girls who have completed 11 grades and enrolled in state technical schools will be fully funded through a state grant.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev reported that currently, more than 904,000 girls are studying in higher educational institutions in the country, which constitutes 54% of the total number of students. Among doctoral candidates and research interns, women make up about 61%, which corresponds to approximately 8,500 individuals.

He also mentioned that last year, 60 girls from Uzbekistan were admitted to prestigious universities abroad.

The president paid special attention to participants who have achieved success in international scientific Olympiads, as well as Dilafruz Jurabaeva — the Microsoft ambassador in Uzbekistan and a winner of international startup competitions.
