“The servicemen of Mongolia, involved in the UN peacekeeping operation UNMISS, proudly carry out their mission to protect civilians in the Abyei state, Republic of South Sudan,” reports MiddleAsianNews.

Since the beginning of the crisis in the region, starting from February 14, 2026, more than 1000 citizens sought protection at the military base, and on February 27, an additional 400 people joined them, mostly elderly and children. Thus, Mongolian soldiers ensured the protection of over 1400 civilians.

As part of the program to protect civilians, the military established a medical point and a first aid tent, and provided emergency medical assistance to injured civilians, isolating those in need of help.

Among those seeking protection in the camps was a pregnant woman in labor. The camp doctor, Senior Lieutenant Tserenlham Tserendorj, along with nurse Junior Sergeant Uuganbayar Dashdorj, demonstrated high qualifications and successfully assisted the woman in giving birth to a healthy child.
This work highlights that the servicemen of Mongolia responsibly and professionally fulfill their duties, ensuring the safety of the civilian population and providing humanitarian assistance as part of their peacekeeping activities.

With the 15th rotation consisting of over 800 servicemen from one battalion, Mongolia began its mission in South Sudan in September 2025 as part of the UNMISS program.

As of March 1, 2026, the United Nations expressed its concerns regarding the possibility of renewed violence in the Abiemnhom area and called for the restoration of order.
