American Fighters Accidentally Shot Down by Kuwaiti Air Defense
U.S. military officials later clarified that three F-15E aircraft were mistakenly shot down by Kuwait's air defense system.
In response to these events, the Iranian side announced strikes on the American base "Ali Al-Salem" in Kuwait, as well as on vessels in the Indian Ocean, which occurred after the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to attacks by the U.S. and Israel.
According to military sources in Tehran, "Rocket units of the ground and naval forces of the army have been striking the American base 'Ali Al-Salem' and hostile vessels in the northern part of the Indian Ocean in the last few hours."
On the same day, another incident occurred in the capital of Kuwait. After air raid sirens sounded near the U.S. embassy, smoke was observed. Firefighters and ambulances arrived at the scene, according to reports from Reuters citing witnesses. There is currently no information regarding a possible airstrike from American authorities.
According to AFP, smoke was also seen over Kuwait's northern power plant. On the same day, debris fell on the "Mina Al-Ahmadi" oil refinery, resulting in injuries to two workers, although the plant's production facilities were not damaged.
On February 28, Israel and the U.S. struck targets in Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to destroy the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic and urged the Iranian military to surrender, while calling on the country's population to "take their fate into their own hands."
According to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, at least 555 people were killed as a result of the strikes. The death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials from the security forces, including Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh and Chief of Staff Abdulrahim Mousavi, has been confirmed.
In response to these events, Iran attacked Israel and other countries in the Middle East, and an Iranian drone carried out an attack on a British airbase in Cyprus.
