Xi Jinping called for equal participation of parties in Ukraine negotiations
According to the Chinese foreign ministry, Xi noted that the international situation has undergone significant changes since World War II, adding that China maintains a "principled" position regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the Chinese leader, the key to resolving the conflict is a consistent and open dialogue.
Xi Jinping emphasized: "It is important to ensure equal rights for all parties, strengthen the foundations of peace, take into account the legitimate interests of each participant, and enhance the commitment to peace, as well as implement the concept of common security and create a reliable architecture for peace."
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, thus, the head of China hinted at the importance of European countries' participation in the peace process.
At the meeting, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged Xi Jinping to leverage China's influence over Russia to persuade Moscow to cease military actions in Ukraine.
He noted: "We understand that the signals coming from Beijing are received in Moscow with great attention, both at the level of words and at the level of actions."
Previously, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that China could influence the end of the war "with one call" to Moscow.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that China has not yet shown interest in ending the war waged by Russia against Ukraine.
