"Sometimes it is necessary." Trump on the possible use of military force against Iran
The President emphasized his interest in reaching an agreement with Iran regarding its nuclear program.
When asked about the possibility of using military force, Trump replied that he does not seek such a scenario but added, "sometimes you have to" take such measures.
This month, three rounds of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran on the nuclear program have already taken place in Geneva, with Oman acting as a mediator.
A week earlier, Iran temporarily closed the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global oil trade, for military exercises.
Trump also announced that he is giving Iran a deadline of 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement, otherwise he warned of "bad consequences." To increase pressure on Tehran, the U.S. has sent additional forces, including aircraft and naval ships, to the region.
Washington insists on a complete cessation of uranium enrichment in Iran and demands resolution of issues related to ballistic missiles and support for groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen. In turn, Tehran believes that discussions should focus solely on the nuclear program.
