Anna Akopyan announced the end of their civil marriage on February 17, but did not specify the reasons for the breakup or provide additional details.
Pashinyan noted on his Telegram channel: “I respect Anna’s decision. For 30 years she has been my support in difficult times, my protection. I am not sure that I have always been as supportive, and I may have caused her additional pain, for which I apologize.”
The relationship between Nikol Pashinyan and Anna Akopyan began in the 90s when they met at Yerevan State University. Despite their long union, the couple did not formalize their marriage and are raising four children together.
Earlier, Pashinyan explained that he did not formalize his marriage with Akopyan to “protect the family.” In the 90s, as an opposition figure, he feared arrest and property confiscation. Therefore, the apartment they purchased together was registered in Anna's name so that “the children would have a place to live.”
