The oldest veteran of the Great Patriotic War in Tajikistan, Aziz Kodirov, has passed away

According to "Asia-Plus," the information about the veteran's death was provided by the district Council of War and Labor Veterans. According to them, in the last months of his life, he suffered from illness and was under home treatment.

Aziz Kodirov was born in 1922 in Shahritus. In 1939, while working as a teacher, he went to the front, where he was wounded multiple times. In 1943, he returned home and continued his work in the education sector.

With his death, only 12 veterans of the Great Patriotic War remain in Tajikistan.

It should be noted that during the war, about 300,000 people were drafted from Tajikistan to the front, of which 92,000 died or went missing.

According to data from 2005, there were 9,900 World War II veterans in Tajikistan, and by 2020, their number had decreased to 168. In 2021, there were 98, in 2022 — 59, in 2023 — 42, and in 2024, there will be only 24 people left.
