In 2025, South Korea recorded an increase in birth rates, which was a significant event for a country where this indicator had long remained low. An official representative of the ministry, Park Hyun-jung, noted that one of the factors contributing to this increase is the rise in the number of marriages. "From April 2024 to December of last year, we observed an increase in the number of marriages for 21 consecutive months. This is related to the fact that many couples postponed their weddings due to the COVID-19 pandemic," she explained.

The birth rate in South Korea, which had previously been significantly below the global average, also showed improvement. In 2023, it reached a historic low of 0.72, but in 2024 it increased to 0.75, and in 2025 it reached 0.8. Despite this success, this figure is still below the necessary level of 2.1, which is required to maintain the current population of the country, which stands at 51 million people.
