Suspicion Against Pavel Durov: Media Reports Possible Case for Aiding Terrorism

Accusations Against Telegram: Insufficient Removal of Extremist Content

According to information published in Russian media, Pavel Durov may find himself under suspicion for aiding terrorist activities.

The reason for this is complaints about the operation of the Telegram messenger, which allegedly failed to comply with the directives of Russian authorities regarding the removal of prohibited content.

It is reported that the platform did not delete more than 10,500 channels containing calls for extremism, as well as 1,125 channels related to materials from extremist and terrorist groups.

Moreover, according to some sources, 1,369 channels and bots related to child pornography were not blocked, along with 3,771 channels distributing drugs, 2,666 channels concerning suicide topics, and 2,124 channels in which minors could be involved in illegal activities, according to law enforcement agencies.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB, since 2022, Telegram has been involved in about 153,000 crimes, of which approximately 33,000 relate to sabotage-terrorist and extremist activities.

If the accusations are confirmed, Pavel Durov could face a prison sentence ranging from eight years to life imprisonment.
