Scientists report the absence of sunspots for the first time in several years

Experts note in their statement: "The sun looks like a perfect disk without any features."
According to the scientists, the last observation of a complete absence of sunspots was recorded on December 11, 2021. Typically, the disappearance of spots is associated with periods of low solar activity, known as solar minimum.

Furthermore, the flare activity index has reached zero for the first time since 2024.

Specialists explain that sunspots are an important component of the star's surface and are connected to its magnetic field. Dark areas occur in places with a high concentration of magnetic flux, and since the energy of solar flares is formed due to these fields, the number and area of spots have a direct dependence on the level of solar activity.
