Iran tested a new naval air defense missile
It became known that on February 21, a video was released showing the missile being launched from the military ship Shahid Sayyad Shirazi. The Sayyad-3G is a naval modification of the ground-based air defense system Sayyad-3.
This missile is equipped with a vertical launch system and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 150 kilometers. Tehran claims that the new system will create a regional air defense "umbrella" for ships of the Shahid Soleimani class.
The first launch of the ground version of the Sayyad-3 missile took place in 2016. It has a range of 120 kilometers, is six meters long, and weighs about 900 kilograms.
Earlier, Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the IRGC Navy, stated that Iran is ready to close the Strait of Hormuz if such a decision is made by the country's leadership. He also added that combat weapons differ from those demonstrated during the exercises.
The Smart Control exercises took place from February 16 to 18 against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Iran and the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated that Tehran has a period of 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement on its nuclear program, warning of "tough measures" in case of refusal.
