CNN: US intelligence claims possible secret nuclear weapons tests in China

According to information provided by CNN sources, China is not only updating its nuclear arsenal but may also have violated the international moratorium on nuclear testing established in 1996 by conducting a covert test in June 2020.

The publication notes that Chinese investments in nuclear technologies are aimed at achieving parity with the military capabilities of Russia and the United States. Experts suggest that this will provide China with technical capabilities that no other leading nuclear power in the world possesses.

Among the new development directions mentioned by CNN are the creation of missiles with multiple compact warheads, an expansion of the range of weapons, and the development of low-yield tactical nuclear weapons that have not previously been produced in the country.

According to informants, such weapons may be intended for targets closer to China's borders, including scenarios for possible Beijing responses to U.S. support for Taiwan.

At the time of publication, there were no official comments from Chinese authorities on this matter.
