Freedom House: The level of political rights in the USA is lower than in Mongolia

According to a report by Freedom House, the level of internet freedom in the USA is 73 out of 100, while the assessment of political rights (34 out of 40) is lower than in Mongolia, where this indicator is 36 out of 40," reports MiddleAsiaNews.

Since the peaceful revolution of 1990, Mongolia has been conducting multi-party elections, establishing itself as a democratic electoral state. Political rights and civil liberties are upheld in the country, although parties often operate through patronage networks, which breeds corruption and reduces competition in the development of political programs.

The "Freedom in the World" rating for countries is determined based on the overall score of political rights, which ranges from 0 to 40, and civil liberties, rated from 0 to 60.

Mongolia, with a freedom index of 84 out of 100, is classified as a free country, comparable to the United States (84/100). In contrast, Russia, with a freedom index of 12 out of 100 and internet freedom of 17 out of 100, is considered an unfree country with an established authoritarian regime. Kazakhstan, in turn, has a freedom index of 23 out of 100 and is also classified as an unfree country.

The United States is a federal republic where citizens enjoy an active political system, a strong tradition of the rule of law, freedom of expression and religion, as well as many other civil rights. However, in recent years, there has been a weakening of democratic institutions, manifested in the rise of political polarization, extremism, pressure from parties on the electoral process, as well as abuses in the criminal justice and immigration systems, leading to increased inequality in wealth and political influence.
