
On February 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone conversation with Abbas Araghchi, the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, during which they discussed current issues related to the Iranian nuclear program. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
During the conversation, the ministers exchanged views, taking into account the results of recent indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran that took place in Geneva.
As stated in the press release from the Russian Foreign Ministry, "the heads of the foreign policy agencies discussed the current state of affairs regarding the Iranian nuclear program, considering the outcomes of the U.S.-Iranian indirect contacts that took place in Geneva."
The Russian side reaffirmed its support for efforts aimed at achieving political and diplomatic solutions, while emphasizing the need to respect Iran's legitimate rights in accordance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
In addition, the ministers discussed several bilateral issues of mutual interest to both countries.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's statement also noted that the initiative for the phone conversation came from the Iranian side.
