A shark has been discovered in the icy waters of Antarctica for the first time

In the waters of the South Shetland Islands, located in Antarctica, a group of Australian scientists made an unexpected discovery: they saw a shark. This event is reported by the Kazinform agency, citing AP.

The subject that was spotted was a massive and clumsy fish, slowly swimming above the barren seabed at significant depth. This sight became a real sensation for the researchers.

Previously, it was believed that sharks could not inhabit such cold Antarctic waters. However, as researcher Alan Jamieson reported, this "elusive" predator was captured on an underwater camera. The length of the shark caught on video is estimated by scientists to be about 3-4 meters.

“We absolutely did not expect to see a shark, as it is believed that they do not occur in Antarctica,” added Jamieson.
