In recent years, short and dynamic series consisting of minute-long episodes have been attracting more and more attention, and now this trend cannot go unnoticed by Hollywood.
If you haven't encountered vertical dramas yet, that will soon change. These short formats have already gained popularity, and now the largest studios are showing interest in them.
Last year, Jana Vinograd, who previously headed Showtime, announced the creation of MicroCo, a studio focused on producing vertical dramas. She noted that she was surprised by the number of talented individuals interested in collaboration. Just two months prior, Bill Block, former director of Miramax, launched GammaTime, offering original micro-dramas from CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker.
“Every studio in Hollywood that you can imagine is participating in or testing these projects,” claims Jen Cooper, a consultant on vertical dramas. She added that on the Actor’s Access platform, 90% of job postings for American actors are indeed vertical projects. Against the backdrop of stagnation in the entertainment industry, vertical projects are demonstrating real growth: according to Deadline, revenues in this segment have increased by 8000% compared to the previous year.
