The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, is expected in Brussels, and both sides hope to agree on the date of his visit. This was announced by the EU Ambassador in Ashgabat, Beata Pexa, at a briefing held on February 17 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
According to Pexa, the European Union has already decided to hold high-level meetings, during which negotiations will take place with the Presidents of the European Commission, Council, and Parliament, as well as with European Commissioners.
She noted: “President Serdar Berdymukhamedov is more than a welcome guest in Brussels for meetings with representatives of the EU's top leadership. Everyone is just waiting for the date of the visit to be agreed upon.”
Additionally, the ambassador emphasized that the agenda for the upcoming negotiations will be extensive and will cover topics such as political consultations, energy security, education, and cooperation with youth. Currently, the key issue remains the selection of a suitable date, considering the busy schedules of European leaders.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Myakhri Bashimova, confirmed that discussions regarding the timing of the visit are ongoing. She added that a package of documents will be prepared for signing by the time of the meeting.
“We will definitely inform about the timelines and dates as soon as they are determined,” she added.
The briefing dedicated to the relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on February 17. During this event, the results of cooperation for the year 2025 were summarized, and the main priorities for cooperation in 2026 were outlined. The briefing was attended by representatives of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, diplomats accredited in the country, as well as media and EU institutions.
