Law enforcement officials stated that the police were called around 12:45 AM to the Faubourg Marigny area, which was near the French Quarter where the mass festivities were taking place.
According to court documents, when the bar manager attempted to escort LaBeouf out, the actor began to threaten him. After he was removed, LaBeouf reportedly punched one of the patrons who was assisting the manager, then returned and struck another man in the nose.
"Some witnesses tried to hold him down until the police arrived. Ultimately, he was let go in hopes that he would leave, but he attacked the same person again, striking him in the upper body, and then assaulted another, hitting him in the nose," the police press release stated.
Witnesses held LaBeouf until law enforcement arrived, who then took him to the hospital. He was later discharged and arrested on two counts of battery.
Reports of the actor's erratic behavior emerged over the following days. Robert Scuz, a worker at Ms. Mae's bar, told the Hollywood Reporter that LaBeouf was in a "somewhat confrontational state."
"During the fight, he shouted, 'Do you know who I am?'" Scuz added.
LaBeouf was asked to leave the establishment after he attempted to pour drinks behind the bar.
The actor has previously been open about his struggles with alcohol. In 2017, he underwent rehabilitation after being arrested in Savannah, Georgia, and that experience inspired him to create the semi-autobiographical film "Honey Boy."
