In the first reading, the draft law on the ratification of the temporary trade agreement between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) received approval from the parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
During the discussion, deputies asked whether meat and legumes were included in the list of goods subject to preferential tariffs. Choro Seiytov, the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, confirmed that meat products do indeed fall under this agreement.
He also noted that the meat imported from Mongolia has a lower price and expressed hope that the reduction of tariffs will contribute to improving the situation for consumers and stabilizing prices in the country.
Among the goods included in the approved list are also vegetables, fruits, legumes, and various types of equipment.
After the first reading, the draft law will undergo further stages of parliamentary consideration before final ratification. If fully adopted, Kyrgyzstan will be able to expand access to affordable imported goods, which will promote regional economic integration and increase trade.
Earlier, last year, Kyrgyzstan considered the possibility of importing meat from Mongolia. This was reported by Zhenali Orozbekov, the head of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service under the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
In August 2025, it was also reported that Kyrgyz companies were interested in importing various types of livestock from Mongolia and developing long-term cooperation. At that time, the parties discussed issues of stable and mutually beneficial trade turnover and directions for further cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia, in 2025, the total volume of meat and meat product exports reached 85,400 tons, amounting to $343.9 million.
