“On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, we would like to congratulate the people of Mongolia on the holiday of Tsagaan Sar, wishing you happiness, optimism, and success!” — reports MiddleAsianNews, citing the words of the ambassador in Ulaanbaatar.

A friend of mine from Mongolia explained that the current year is named the Year of the Red Fire Horse, which occurs only once every 60 years. This symbol embodies change, innovation, the start of new beginnings, growth, and opportunities. I am convinced that this characterizes the energetic and fruitful partnership between the United States and Mongolia. May the Year of the Fire Horse bring you and your loved ones health, happiness, and good fortune!

This year will be particularly significant for both countries. The United States will celebrate "Freedom 250," marking the 250th anniversary of its independence with numerous planned events. At the same time, Mongolia will celebrate the 820th anniversary of its empire, which is significant in world history. The U.S. Embassy is pleased to collaborate with Mongolian partners in celebrating these bilateral anniversaries, highlighting the strong historical ties between our nations.

We are pleased to announce that the "Ulaanbaatar Water Resources Agreement" project, funded with $462 million and supported by the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation, is in the implementation stage and is expected to be completed by March 31. This ambitious project includes the construction of new water intakes, wastewater treatment, and ensuring the sustainability of the water sector for the city and its residents.

In the area of economic cooperation, United Airlines has become the first American airline to begin flights to Mongolia this year. We will continue to work with our Mongolian partners to expand opportunities in trade and investment. Last month, Mongolia participated in the Strategic Mineral Resources Ministers' Meeting organized by the U.S. Secretary of State, and this year we will actively collaborate with partners like Mongolia to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply chain for strategic mineral resources.

Our security cooperation remains strong. This year, international peacekeeping exercises and training, "Khaan Quest," will also take place, continuing our long-standing collaboration in support of UN peacekeeping operations.

We are also preparing for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Mongolia, which is expected in January 2027.

In all these areas, we will actively work to strengthen the relationships between the peoples and governments of our countries in this auspicious and blessed Year of the Fire Horse.

“During my three-year tenure as ambassador, Mongolia and its people have made a strong impression on me.

I am most struck by the resilience and independence of the Mongolian people. I am amazed that you have maintained your identity and independence for centuries. Moreover, your commitment to democracy is impressive. You chose the path of democracy in 1990 and have not deviated from it despite difficulties. This is truly important. The most remarkable thing about Mongolia is its people. Mongolians are warm-hearted, hospitable, and straightforward. Americans are also known for their straightforwardness, so I appreciate this quality in Mongolians. I also like that Mongolians continue to respect their history and traditions, which remain relevant today.”
