The first guidelines regarding the management of risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) have been introduced in India, aimed at creating a code that promotes innovation. This is reported in an article by The Times of India.

The proposed rules are designed to minimize bias, misuse, and opaque use of AI, with a focus on safety, resilience, and sustainability of technologies. They do not impose restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence but emphasize the need for equality and accountability in its application for the benefit of humanity, based on existing legislation and regulations in the field of information technology and data protection. To ensure compliance with these rules, national institutions will be established in the country responsible for the governance and security of AI, as well as expert councils that will work on policy formation in this area.

This guidance, which will be updated in accordance with technological developments, is aimed at policymakers and the business community for the application of AI in sectors such as education, agriculture, finance, and public administration. The announced rules serve as an alternative to a bill regulating the use of AI, which is not planned to be introduced in the near future, as noted by The Times of India.

The publication emphasizes that India's approach to the application of AI is based on the belief that no country or company should have a monopoly on its development and use, which should be directed at solving pressing contemporary issues.

Delhi AI Summit

The release of the AI governance rules coincides with the start of the fifth AI Impact Summit 2026, which will take place in New Delhi from February 16. The summit's themes cover government systems, sovereign infrastructure, AI governance, and workforce transformation, and India plans to present its ambitious plans for the implementation of AI across various economic sectors.

As part of the summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a national exhibition that will take place in the capital's center. Achievements in the application of AI and innovations in its development will be showcased across 300 venues. The exhibition will highlight India's collaboration with Russia, Australia, France, Japan, Tajikistan, and other countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
