In 2025, Mongolia exported over 85,000 tons of meat and meat products

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia announced on Saturday that in 2025, the country exported 85,400 tons of meat and meat products worth $343.9 million.

According to the ministry's statement, the largest amount of meat was sent to China, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Mongolia aims to diversify its economy, which heavily relies on the mining sector, and increase the volumes of meat and meat product exports.

By the end of December 2025, about 67 meat processing enterprises in Mongolia received special licenses for export.

According to data from the National Statistical Office, by the end of 2025, the livestock population in the country reached 58.1 million heads.

Mongolia is home to about 30 million sheep, which exceeds the number of sheep in New Zealand. However, until recently, the country exported only a small fraction of its total meat production. Now Mongolia hopes to meet the growing demand for halal lamb, particularly from Iran, which is forced to import this product due to its limited domestic production.
