OpenAI Accuses Chinese DeepSeek of Stealing AI Technologies
Additionally, DeepSeek offers its services for free, posing a threat to American companies that have invested billions of dollars in the development of AI technologies.
OpenAI has also expressed concerns about potential threats to national security. In particular, they believe that the DeepSeek chatbot limits its responses on topics sensitive to Chinese authorities, and that copying technologies may lead to the protective mechanisms not being transferred, increasing the risk of misuse.
Chairman of the House China Committee John Moolenaar noted that DeepSeek's actions fit into Beijing's strategy of copying technology from abroad. Congressman Michael McCaul added that the successes of the Chinese company highlight the risks associated with supplying advanced chips to China.
U.S. authorities are also investigating the possibility that DeepSeek may have circumvented export restrictions by acquiring chips through third countries. It was previously reported that the company may have used Nvidia equipment to develop its models, which may have been imported into China illegally.
