In Europe, measures against Russia's "shadow fleet" are being discussed
According to the publication, Richard Knighton, the head of the UK armed forces, proposed various options regarding tankers, including the possibility of joint operations to seize vessels. Sources suggest that such activities may involve coordination with the United States.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur emphasizes that countries providing flags to the ships of the "shadow fleet" should consider potential retaliatory measures. However, he noted that specific actions require further discussion due to concerns from some countries about possible escalation of the conflict.
As Bloomberg reports, the "shadow fleet" consists of approximately 1,500 vessels engaged in transporting Russian oil while circumventing international sanctions, using various schemes, including registration under the flags of other states.
Many of these vessels are already included in the sanctions lists of the European Union and the United States, and some have been detained, including with the involvement of American military forces.
