92-year-old Mongolian proves in Abu Dhabi that age is not a barrier

For the first time, the capital of the United Arab Emirates is hosting the Open Masters Games — the largest multi-sport event in the Middle East. From February 6 to 15, over 25,000 participants from 92 countries have gathered in Abu Dhabi to compete in 38 different disciplines, with no age or qualification restrictions. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.

The competitions are taking place at 38 modern venues in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, including 18 indoor and 20 outdoor facilities.

92-year-old Radnaa Tseren from Mongolia demonstrates that age is not a barrier to success — on Tuesday, he outpaced his competitors and won the 200-meter race, earning the admiration of the spectators.

He finished in 39.64 seconds, beating his closest competitor by more than four seconds in the adult category, which also included athletes aged 70 and 80.

“I don’t get tired of running. I strive to remain a champion. I would like to keep running and winning, even when I turn 95,” he shared. “I am happy with my victory and that I can leave younger competitors behind.”

Tseren, the oldest participant in the championship, also won silver in the 100-meter race and looks forward to competing this week in the 400, 800, and 1500-meter running events, as well as in the triple jump.

Despite his busy schedule, he is determined to stay at the top of his athletic achievements for many years.

Radnaa is a retiree and former physical education teacher who taught for many years at a secondary school in South Gobi. He leads an active and organized lifestyle. Despite the harsh winters in Mongolia, where temperatures can drop below -30°C, he continues to train at home.

Every morning he gets up at 5 AM, does stretching exercises, and actively starts his day.

“It’s very cold in Mongolia, and there’s a lot of snow outside. Nevertheless, I train every day,” he noted. “The most difficult distance for me is 1500 meters, as it is a long race.”

Secrets of Success

He encourages young people to be consistent in their training.

“Engage in sports, run if you have the opportunity, walk more, avoid alcohol and smoking, and most importantly, always warm up before training,” he advises.

Passion for Sports

Radnaa has 10 children and 36 grandchildren, and he has passed on his love for sports to his family.

This week, his 15-year-old grandson is participating in swimming competitions in the UAE, while Radnaa competes in the Masters category. Three of his children also work as physical education teachers.

His son and daughter accompany him during trips to competitions around the world.

“We make sure that he is comfortable during training, that he warms up well and eats properly,” said his 64-year-old son Badrah Radnaa, who is also a swimming coach. “Father eats a variety of foods but prefers smoked beef and hot soup.”

The Radnaa family claims that he inspires young people in Mongolia with his success in competitions.

“For Mongolians, he is a role model, and they are proud of him,” noted his son. “Age doesn’t matter; he continues to set high goals for himself.”

Spectators in Abu Dhabi were thrilled to watch Mr. Radnaa sprint down the track.

“I heard he is over 90 years old. It’s amazing how fast he moves,” emphasized 52-year-old athlete Shalin Perera from Sri Lanka.
