Pet burials alongside their owners allowed in São Paulo, Brazil
In the most populous state of Brazil, São Paulo, a law has been passed allowing the burial of pets in the same grave as their owners. This was reported by Kazinform, citing the BBC.
The legislation establishes the need to comply with sanitary norms, which will be determined by local funeral services. It is important to note that the document also emphasizes the "emotional bond between people and their pets."
The new law has received the unofficial name "Bob the Gravedigger," which is associated with the touching story of a dog named Bob. He lived on his owner's grave in São Paulo for ten years. Despite attempts by relatives to take Bob away, he constantly returned to the burial site. After he was hit by a car in 2021, cemetery staff decided to bury Bob next to his owner, building a special kennel for him.
According to data from the Pet Brasil Institute, Brazil ranks third in the world in the number of pets, with a total of 160 million.
