At a meeting with South Korean parliament members on Thursday, representatives of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) reported that Kim Jong Un is taking steps to elevate the status of his daughter Kim Ju Ae within the political hierarchy. This indicates his intention to appoint her as his successor, which is a significant step forward compared to what was discussed two years ago.

Lawmakers noted that Kim Ju Ae has already participated in various official events and has begun to express her views on important state issues, which, according to the NIS, signifies her approach to the status of an heir.

Deputy Lee Sung Kwon, speaking to reporters after a closed meeting with intelligence officials, explained: "Signs of her activity at events and her statements on state issues confirm that she is moving towards being appointed as the successor."

Party congresses, which take place in North Korea every five years, are key political events where the country's leadership shares plans for the future, including directions for foreign policy and military strategy, as well as nuclear programs.

According to BBC correspondent in Seoul Jake Kwon, Kim Ju Ae is the only officially known child of Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju.

There is an opinion that Kim also has an older son, but neither he nor North Korean media have ever mentioned his existence.

Interestingly, the world learned about Kim Ju Ae shortly after her birth thanks to American basketball player Dennis Rodman, who, during his visit to North Korea in 2013, told the British newspaper Guardian in an interview about how he held little Kim Ju Ae in his arms.
