Japan has called in the army due to record snowfall, there are fatalities

The number of fatalities due to abnormal snowfall in Japan has risen to 46, and 558 people have been injured, according to BILD.

According to reports, in some cases, the bodies of victims were found only after several days, as they were buried under thick layers of snow. There have also been accidents caused by snow sliding off building roofs, and reports of private homes being destroyed in the affected regions.

Since the beginning of January, the northern regions of Japan have faced unprecedented snowfall, which continues to this day. In particular, in the cities of Aomori and Ajigasawa, the snow cover this winter has exceeded one meter, with some areas experiencing snowdrifts of up to 4.5 meters.

According to Aomori Prefecture Governor Soichiro Miyashita, local services are struggling to clear streets, residential areas, and railway tracks. In early February, regional authorities requested assistance from the Japan Self-Defense Forces, who are now actively involved in snow removal, especially concerning elderly and isolated citizens.

It should be noted that in the last three weeks, 46 people have died as a result of heavy snowfall in Japan, and the number of injured has approached 600.
