The USA and Russia are negotiating the update of the New START Treaty, - Vice President Vance

The Vice President of the United States noted that the new treaty on strategic offensive arms will undergo changes compared to its previous version, which is part of the ongoing negotiations with the Russian side. He emphasized that the White House administration aims to achieve a positive outcome for the American people, which includes, in particular, limiting the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The current treaty expired on February 5. It was signed on April 8, 2010, by the heads of state of Russia and the USA — Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama.

The New START Treaty provides for limits on the number of deployed intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), and heavy bombers (HB), totaling 700 units, as well as a total number of warheads — 1550 units. There are also limits on deployed and non-deployed launchers for ICBMs, SLBMs, and HB, not exceeding 800 units.
