The first tests of a hypersonic missile were conducted in Europe
Hypersonica is a company founded in 2023 by British Philip Kurt and German Mark Ewenz. They characterized the successful testing as a significant step towards creating a "sovereign hypersonic strike capability" for Europe.
According to the company's statement, the results of the test flight will serve as a basis for further development of high-speed strike systems and analysis of potential adversaries. The next tests will be conducted in stages, starting from hypersonic flights and ending with the development of control and complex maneuvers.
Hypersonica also noted that the project aligns with NATO's goals and the British program for the development of hypersonic technologies by 2030, and will also help reduce costs compared to traditional development methods.
Considering Europe's growing dependence on American weaponry, countries in the region are increasingly investing in their defense projects. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), arms imports from the U.S. to Europe, including Ukraine, have more than tripled from 2020 to 2024 compared to the previous five-year period.
