US debt to the UN nearly four billion dollars

The United Nations has reached out to the Trump administration requesting clarification on what portion of the total debt of nearly 4 billion US dollars it plans to pay off and by when, according to information provided by NBC News and published by Kazinform.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern last week about the organization's financial situation, warning that without changes to financial rules or compliance by all 193 member states, the UN could face a serious financial crisis.

Of the total debt, 2.19 billion dollars is related to the regular operational budget, of which 767 million dollars is due to be paid this year. Additionally, the US also owes 1.8 billion dollars for a separate budget for peacekeeping operations, and this amount continues to grow.

US representatives at the UN confirmed that the Trump administration plans to pay a significant portion of the debt in the coming weeks, although the final amount has not yet been determined.

In a letter to UN member states, Guterres indicated that by July of this year, funds for the regular operational budget may run out, which would negatively impact the organization's work.
