Mongolia ranks among the lowest in the Global Organized Crime Index 2025

In 2025, Mongolia demonstrated a crime index of 52.1, indicating a moderate level of safety. This figure has been declining for three years. The country is considered relatively safe for travelers when standard precautions are taken, as reported by MiddleAsianNews.

In the global ranking, Mongolia is positioned 153rd, trailing behind Denmark (148), Latvia (149), Lithuania (149), and Australia (152).

Russia, located to the north of Mongolia, ranks 22nd in the index with a high level of crime, remaining among countries with a significant presence of organized crime. High rates of criminal markets, such as human trafficking, drug trade, and cybercrime, indicate a weak capacity of the state to combat these issues.

China, Mongolia's southern neighbor, ranks 45th. In 2025, the crime rate in the country was 24.0 points, decreasing to 23.1 by the beginning of 2026. This confirms a continuing seven-year trend of decline. Despite the overall rise in financial crimes and smuggling worldwide, China demonstrates a high degree of stability and a low level of street crime.

In 2025, the Global Organized Crime Index (GOCI) records an increase in financial and cyber crimes, as well as the smuggling of synthetic drugs.

In 2026, the crime index in Mongolia was 50.3, a decrease from 52.1 in 2025. Data presented on the website osindex.net confirms that this figure has been declining for three consecutive years. Since 2013, the crime index in Mongolia has increased by 1.07 times.
