American billionaire Elon Musk announced that his company SpaceX has shifted its priorities to the development of a self-sustaining city on the Moon. He is confident that this project can be realized in less than ten years. In contrast, creating a similar settlement on Mars, according to him, will take more than 20 years, as reported by the news agency Kazinform.
Musk noted that "the main task is to ensure the future of humanity, and the Moon provides a quicker opportunity for this. Travel to Mars is only possible at certain intervals every 26 months, while we can send missions to the Moon every 10 days," he added.
The entrepreneur also confirmed that SpaceX still intends to build a city on Mars, planning to start work in about five to seven years. In May of last year, he mentioned that the company is preparing its first unmanned Starship for a mission to Mars by the end of 2026, reports CNN.
