With the end of 2025, the German automaker Volkswagen has taken first place in electric vehicle sales in Europe, surpassing Tesla, reports Kazinform, citing data from DW.
According to information from the consulting firm JATO, Volkswagen managed to sell 274,278 electric vehicles, which is 56% higher than the figures for 2024. The main factor for this growth was the new models, among which the mid-range electric vehicle ID.7 stands out. This allowed Volkswagen to overtake the previously dominant Tesla in the European market.
Although exact sales data for Tesla in Europe for 2025 is not available, JATO notes that they have decreased by 27%. Experts believe this is related to the deterioration of Elon Musk's company's image in Germany and the fact that it has focused on models that no longer meet the modern requirements of the European market.
Despite this, Tesla's Model Y continues to be the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe in 2025, while the Elroq electric crossover from Skoda, which is part of Volkswagen, took second place.
It was previously reported that global electric vehicle sales increased by 20% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching a record number of 20.7 million units. Of this number, nearly 13 million electric vehicles were sold in China.
